Jeff Moran has been in the appraisal business since 1988.
Having grown up around antiques and auctions, Jeff serves as Senior Vice President of John Moran Auctioneers, and oversees daily operations with his father John. Working full-time with the company since 1988, Jeff has assisted thousands of clients looking to buy and sell or in need of accurate valuations. Jeff has been responsible for generating sales revenue in excess of two-hundred and fifty million dollars for his consignors.
Specializing in 19th and 20th century California and American paintings, Jeff has been responsible for researching, expanding and cultivating the auction market for many Southern California artists. He meanwhile maintains a broad knowledge of antiques and fine furnishings, including rugs, silver, ceramics, jewelry, and books.
Over the past decade, Jeff has performed pro-bono benefit auctions for many public and private institutions; in particular, he has helped the Santa Barbara Historical Museum raise over $1 million in funds. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Museum of California Art.
Civic service occupies a large part of Jeff’s life outside of the auction business: For twenty years he has been a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Jeff is also a team leader and medic with the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team - a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to saving lives and safety education. Jeff’s interests as an outdoorsman include cycling, skiing, hiking, and diving. His first-hand knowledge of the landscapes so often painted by the artists he handles earns Jeff an unmatched appreciation for the art Moran’s sells.
Jeff studied Philosophy/Religion at University of California, Santa Cruz and Appraisal Studies in the Fine and Decorative Arts at New York University's School of Continuing Education. Currently he is a student at The Drucker School, Claremont Graduate University.
