Note: Saint Hubert or Hubertus (born c. 656 to 658; died 727 to 728) known as ''Apostle of the Ardennes'', is the patron saint of hunters. As a young nobleman he was active in court life in France and Germany before losing his wife during childbirth and withdrawing into the Ardennes forest to hunt. According to legend, while hunting on Good Friday he encountered a white stag with a crucifix between its antlers, which caused his conversion to Christianity. He eventually became the Bishop of Maastricht and later the Bishop of Liege and was widely venerated in Northern Europe during the Middle Ages. As in the present work, he is typically depicted dressed as a hunter kneeling before the white stag in a forest setting. Condition: Visual: Generally good condition.
